Wow we had such a powerful hour with Jim Foster and many members of Positive Images.
Each of them gave us some background about how their personal school experiences have been
We learned about the interconnectedness of many local organizations and GSA programs. We also discussed GLSEN and what they do you promote awareness for teachers. The most powerful image for me was a sign that had the words TOLERANCE and ACCEPTANCE. Tolerance was crossed out and acceptance was circled , they want to be accepted , not just tolerated as some side show freaks.
Hearing their personal stories of rejection from family and school was hard, but it was also interesting as to how they make the choice to come out or not. Safety and personal well being are always # 1.
Positive Images provides a safe place for these youths to question where they stand in their own sexuality without any pressure. They provide groups, library resources, even a closet of clothing for trans gendered who are trying on whatt they think they may be comfortable with.

All in all it was an eye opener and a look into a world of sometimes outright torture for these bright and caring kids.
